Kitchen Redesign: Hiring an Interior Designer

When thinking about a major redesign of your kitchen, you should also consider hiring an interior designer. Undertaking a project the magnitude of a complete kitchen renovation involves careful planning and budgeting. The services of an interior designer can be helpful during the planning stages.

Research your ideas. Look through kitchen planning magazines, books, and on the Internet. Look at home improvement shows on television. Write down your ideas, clip pictures, and keep a notebook. Be sure that the cost of the work: carpentry, flooring, wall covering, and so on are included in the contract. If you have a budget for fixtures such as new appliances, cabinets, countertops, sink, and so on, make sure the designer stays within your budget.

The interior designer will shop ahead of time and select fixtures, countertops, cabinets, and so on to draft the design for your kitchen. Before these items are purchased, they will need to get your approval. Make sure they understand you want to have the final word. Your budget may depend on it.
