How to Build a Cabinet for a Cooktop

If you are renovating a kitchen, then an option that you have for a stove is building a cabinet for a cooktop to be installed. Homes, now-a-days are built with home owner's sweat and elbow grease more than ever. These few easy steps can lead you to a fresh new look to a kitchen stove top rather than a free standing range. This will give you the seamless look to your cabinets as well the functionality of a stove.

    Level of Difficulty

    Beginner/Intermediate

    Step 1: Preparation and Measuring

Decide where you want to put your cook top. Measure the area, making sure the height will be comfortable for you and attractive in relationship to the counter tops in the kitchen. It is a good idea to sketch out your view of how you want the cabinet to look. Measuring twice is also a very good idea. After the plan is completed then it is time to visit the home improvement store. Many of these stores will cut the pieces for you so that you do not have to do it yourself. If your home store does cut the pieces be sure you mark them so you know which pieces are going to go where. Be sure you bring your drawn out plan with you. While at the store, ask floor associates any question that you may have on materials and/or building. Home improvement stores often hire associates that have experience in home improvement or construction. They would be your best bet for quick answers to your little questions.

    Step 2: Building the Cabinet

Much of the assembly for your cabinet can be done in a garage or on a porch or deck. You will find that the extra space and elbow room will speed up the process. When the cabinet is all but completed you can then slide it firmly into the home it will stay in for the rest of its existence. When you assemble the cabinet it would be a good idea to know what cook top you are going to insert into it because there are different sizes and depths of cooktops. You have to decide between the gas and electric options and ensure that you have all the utility connections you will need. Use corner brackets to reinforce joints in the assembly and make sure everything is square and level using the appropriate tools. Screws will make the joints stronger than nails, be sure you use good wood screws for your building. On top of accommodating the cook top you have to be sure to give enough space in the cabinet for the downdraft vent and the backsplash. Cut the holes for gas and electric lines in the back of the cabinet too. Paint or stain your cabinet to finish.

    Step 3: Cook Top

Now that you've gotten your cabinet assembled you can choose the perfect cook top to install. You can look for instructions on how to install a counter top cook top on http://www.kitchen-bathroom-cabinet.com
